Boys soccer: Webutuck wins behind late goals

Nick Barnes and Liam Nethercott scored in the last two minutes of regulation to lift the host Webutuck High School boys soccer team to a 3-2 comeback win over Ellenville on Tuesday in Amenia.

Webutuck was coming off a 5-0 loss to Rhinebeck on Monday and Warriors coach Kevin Doyle was happy with the way his squad bounced back.

“(Ellenville) totally outplayed us in the first 40 minutes,” Doyle said. “We came off a really rough game against Rhinebeck and our heads were down and everybody was pointing fingers. We finally settled down and kicked it in at about the 60th minute.”

Barnes also scored with two minutes left in the first half for Webutuck (7-3-2 overall). Webutuck goalie Austin Brown made six saves.

“This was a big gut-check game for us,” said Doyle, who had two players injured in Tuesday’s match. “I’m glad we found it in us to fight back and hang in there.”

Webutuck visits Millbrook on Saturday at 5 p.m.
