Evan Brown scored two goals and added one assist for the eighth-seeded Somerville High School boys soccer team which prevailed in the second round of the Somerset County Tournament via a 3-2 decision over ninth-seeded Rutgers Prep on Saturday.

Pablo Benegas added two assists for the Pioneers, who will face top-seeded Watchung Hills in Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Joey Battaglia and Alec Aloia each scored one goal for the Argonauts.

Bernards 4, Ridge 0: Danny Torres scored a pair of goals to power fifth-seeded Bernards past 12th-seeded Ridge in the second round of the Somerset County Tournament. Nick Neptune and Eddy Solis added goals for the Mountaineers, who will face fourth-seeded Gill St. Bernard’s in Saturday’s quarterfinals. Michael Schumacher made 13 saves for Ridge.

Montgomery 3, North Plainfield 2 (OT): Joe Morrissey, Jack Rodgers and Conner Yurcisin scored the goals for seventh-seeded Montgomery to prevail in the second round of the Somerset County Tournament. The Cougars will face second-seeded Pingry in the quarterfinals. Chico Atubi and Christian Medina scored second-half goals for North Plainfield.

Hillsborough 3, Bound Brook 2 (OT): Danny Pankulics, Zeke Realmonte and Ameer Metwally provided the scoring for sixth-seeded Hillsborough in the second round of the Somerset County Tournament. The Raiders will play third-seeded Bridgewater-Raritan in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Scotch Plains-Fanwood 1, Hunterdon Central 1: James Murphy scored for Scotch Plains-Fanwood (7-3-1) while Michael Simpson scored for Hunterdon Central (8-1-2).

Pingry 6, Orange 1: Matt Mangini erupted for four goals and two assists for power Pingry (8-1-1).

Timothy Christian 7, Piscataway Tech 1: David Figueroa led Timothy with two goals and three assists. Zach Coyle also had two goals for Tigers. Sonny Garcia scored for Piscataway Tech.

Somerset County Tournament second round

Bernards 3, Franklin 2: Laura Galli scored twice, including the game-winner, to lead eighth-seeded Bernards (10-2). Montana Sutton also scored for the Mountaineers, who advance to play top-seeded Pingry in the quarterfinals. Ninth-seeded Franklin drops to 3-9-1.

Watchung Hills 3, Immaculata 0: Samantha DePinho, Ally Grunstein and Mollie Wood each found the back of the net to lead sixth-seeded Watchung Hills (4-6-1). The Warriors will take on third-seeded Montgomery in the quarterfinals. 11th-seeded Immaculata dropped to 2-8-1.

Somerville 4, Rutgers Prep 0: Maxine Blackwood, Alexis Williams, Ashley Albert and Melanie Campos all scored to lead fifth-seeded Somerville (10-1). The Pioneers will next play fourth-seeded Ridge in the quarterfinals. 12th-seeded Rutgers Prep falls to 3-4-1.

Union County Tournament first round

Rahway 2, New Providence 1: Catalina Lozano scored both goals to lead tenth-seeded Rahway (5-5), which will play second-seeded Cranford in the quarterfinals. Ashley Evangelos scored for seventh-seeded New Providence (4-6).

Regular Season

Sayreville 1, South Plainfield 0: Andrea Payne scored the game’s lone goal in the 57th minute to lead Sayreville (5-2-1). Kelly Raub made seven saves for the Bombers while Sydni Suroweic stopped 20 shots for South Plainfield (3-5-1).

South Brunswick 1, Piscataway 0: Brielle Errico continued her hot stretch, scoring the game’s only goal in the first half to boost South Brunswick (6-4). Jackie McEvoy made 13 saves for Piscataway (4-6).

Bridgewater-Raritan 0, Hopewell Valley 0: Senior Casey Murphy made six saves for Bridgewater-Raritan (4-3-4).

Timothy Christian 3, Dunellen 1: Sabrina Solorzano scored twice, including a penalty shot, to lead Timothy Christian (7-3-1). Jackie Von Itter hit for Dunellen (2-6).

Westfield 2, Kearny 1: Karli Sottung scored both goals and Taylor Morgan chipped in with an assist to lead Westfield (8-3).

Field hockey

Somerset County Tournament quarterfinal round

Montgomery 1, Pingry 0 OT: Katie Hackett knocked in the game-winning goal in overtime, lifting fifth-seeded Montgomery (6-5). The Cougars will meet top-seeded Bridgewater-Raritan in next week’s semifinals. Stephanie Yeh made 10 saves for fourth-seeded Pingry (4-5-1).

Bridgewater-Raritan 8, Watchung Hills 1: Tracey Rusen scored four goals and Lindsay Alvarez added four assists as top-seeded Bridgewater-Raritan (10-1) rolled. Elena Lizza scored for ninth-seeded Watchung Hills (1-9-1).

Bernards 3, Hillsborough 1: Emma Christus scored twice and Lauren Crane added a goal to lead second-seeded Bernards into the semifinals against third-seeded Ridge.

Ridge 5, Mount St. Mary 1: Jenny Diehl registered a hat trick and six different players recorded at least one point to lead third-seeded Ridge (7-4). Marina Gialanella scored for sixth-seeded Mount St. Mary (7-6).
