The Bullitt East High School boys’ basketball team will open play Thursday in the prestigious Bass Pro Shops Tournament of Champions in Springfield, Mo.
The Chargers (15-3), No. 3 in the state in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, will face Nixa (Mo.) at 9 p.m. in a quarterfinal.
Bullitt East chose to play in the Tournament of Champions instead of the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament.
The eight-team Tournament of Champions includes two squads ranked nationally in the USA Today Super 25 — No. 2 Montverde (Fla.) and No. 22 Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco.
Montverde features 6-foot-10 senior Dakari Johnson, who recently committed to the University of Kentucky, and 6-4 junior D’Angelo Russell, who played as a freshman at Louisville’s Central High School.
The semifinals and finals will be broadcast live by the CBS Sports Network.
