The Calvary Cavaliers bolted out to a 39-25 halftime lead and cruised past the Haynesville Golden Tornado, 62-50, at the Gibsland Bank and Trust Minden Holiday Classic at Minden High School Friday night in a basketball battle between two schools that won state football titles last week.
Three players that starred for the Cavaliers in their state championship game win all scored in double figures, led by Shun Brown with 17 points. Shea Patterson, starting quarterback for Calvary’s football squad, hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points, while Greedy Williams added 11. Calvary advances to play Loyola today at noon at Minden High School.
Haynesville’s star senior quarterback Jerrell Jackson scored nine points in a losing effort.
Loyola 70, Ringgold 60: Dominique Kennedy scored 26 points to lead all scorers as the Flyers upended the Redskins at the Gibsland Bank and Trust Minden Holiday Classic at Minden High.
Drekaleus Williams fired in 18 points and Eldrick English added 11 as Loyola improved to 8-5. The Flyers will face the winner of the Calvary/Haynesville matchup at noon today at Minden.
DeAndre Sutt led Ringgold with 21 points in the loss. DeAndre Williams scored 17 points for the Redskins and Kevin Gibson had 12.
Homer 56, Arcadia 52: Keith Muse scored a game-high 19 points as the Pelicans raced out to an early lead and held on to defeat the Hornets at the Minden Holiday Classic at Minden High.
Dekelvion Walker and Antfernee Adams added 10 points each for Homer, who advances to play Neville at 1:15 p.m. today at Minden.
Arcadia was particularly effective from outside, hitting nine 3-pointers in defeat. Travious Fielding led the Hornets with 15 points, while teammates Anthony Boston and Dauquarioun Fields had eight apiece.
Minden 85, Doyline 59: CJ Elkins scored 27 points to lead all scorers as the Crimson Tide jumped out to a 19-6 lead after one period and coasted to victory over the Panthers at the Minden Holiday Classic at the Minden Rec. Center.
Kevin Hamilton pumped in 18 points for Minden, while JJ Sneed had 12 and Louis Moore added 11. The Crimson Tide advances to play Lakeside at noon today at Webster Junior High.
Donnie Brooks led a trio of Doyline players in double figures with 16 points. Lawrence Hester scored 14 and Johnny Feaster had 10 for the Panthers.
North Webster 68, Red River 40: Devin White scored 19 points to lead the Knights to victory at the Minden Holiday Classic at Webster Junior High School.
Montavious Smith fired in 13 points and Jalen Boston added 11 for North Webster, who advance to play Woodlawn today at 1:15 p.m. at Webster Junior High.
Neville 67, El Dorado 54: Kavonte Turpin scored 18 points and teammate Leon Smith added 16 more as the Tigers defeated the Wildcats at the Minden Holiday Classic at Webster Junior High.
Jalen Cunningham led all scorers, firing in 25 points in defeat for El Dorado.
Neville advances to play Homer today at 1:15 p.m. at Minden High.
Parkway 97, North DeSoto 45: The Panthers sprinted out to a 52-22 halftime lead and pummeled the Griffins in nondistrict action at Parkway.
Niki Edwards led Parkway with 17 points as it improved to 2-4 with the victory. Juwon Johnson dropped in 14 points, William McKnight had 13 and Trey Rogers added 11 for the Panthers.
Emmanuel White scored 14 points to lead North DeSoto in the loss.
Bossier 37, Plain Dealing 28: Kentrell Hardy fired in 22 points, including four 3-pointers, as the Bearkats outlasted the Lions in a defensive struggle at Bossier.
Hardy was one of just four Bossier players to score as it improved to 7-5.
Keldrick Carper and Tray Harris scored eight points each to lead Plain Dealing (7-4).
Riverdale Academy 60, Glenbrook 48: Hogan Nealy scored 20 points and Jacob Hay added 11 as the Rebels improved to 6-6 with the win over the Apaches in Minden.
