Two Rivers 2-1
Not only did the Cougars dominate offensively, but pitcher Brianna Gruenwald pitched lights out in the sweep. She picked up both wins, going all five innings in both while only allowing a combined three hits and 19 strikeouts. She didn’t allow any earned runs.
In game one, Gruenwald pitched a two-hitter and struck out eight as the offense racked up 18 runs on 14 hits. Katie Schumacher and Elicia Engel had three hits each, including two doubles by Elicia that brought in four RBIs. Brianna Gruenwald and Nicole Hepp each added two hits apiece, one of those a double by Gruenwald. Hayley Emmer smacked a 2 RBI double in the third to round out the offensive attack.
In game two, Brianna Gruenwald held strong in the second game, pitching a one hitter that included 11 strikeouts and no walks in the 18-1 win. Since the game was a five inning run rule finish, Gruenwald accounted for 11 of the 15 outs. The single run scored by the Raiders was unearned.
The Cougar bats were also hot, amassing 16 total hits, including three from Katie Schumacher and Brianna Gruenwald, who also had three RBIs. Hailey Zangl, Nicole Hepp, Abby Gierach and Brittany Seefeldt each added two hits, including a Hailey Zangl double. Zangl also racked up four RBIs.
