BUFFALO, N.Y.-In the final game of the annual MLK Classic Canisius beat McKinley 78-60.
The Crusaders had a 26-23 lead after a frantic first quarter. Canisius led 41-38 at the half. In the second half the Crusaders allowed McKinley just 22 points.
Crusaders head coach Kyle Husband told Two On Your Side’s Stu Boyar “we played really well. We are moving in the right direction. We played better in the second half. Two things we did poorly in the first half, we didn’t rebound and we had bad turnovers, we settled down in the second half and executed better. We had the exact same game plan but we didn’t give them the same opportunities.”
Canisius improves to 11-3 on the season. Senior Adam Weir # 25 led the Crusaders with 18 points. Senior Matt MacDonald # 33 had 15, #10 Howard Washington had 10, # 3 Aaron White had 8 points and ten assists and # 34 Jamel Mosley had eight points, ten boards and three blocks.
For McKinley the high scorer was # 2 Dae Quan Warren with 18. #15 Marcus Morris had had 15 and # 5 Reyzon Jordan finished the night with eight points.
Canisius is off for ten days for exams and returns to action a week from Tuesday night at home against St. Francis.
