Senior Robbie Cantelli led three players in double figures with a game-high 27 points as the Holmdel boys basketball team defeated Monmouth Regional, 65-57, in a Shore Conference Class A Central game on Thursday evening.
Sophomore Jeff Harris added 11 of his 17 points in the first half and junior Gerard Nocera added seven of his 11 points in the fourth quarter for the Hornets (10-5, 8-3).
Monmouth sophomore Kyle Bradshaw scored 13 of his team-high 22 points in the second half and freshman Nyrhique Smith added 14 of his 16 points in the second half.
KEYPORT 61, MATER DEI 54: Alex Thompson scored eight of his 20 points and Connor Hubler tossed in five in overtime, leading the visiting Red Raiders past the Seraphs (6-7, 5-5) in Class B Central.
Keyport’s Kevin Walsh took two dribbles and banked home a running 3-pointer from midcourt at the fourth-quarter buzzer, tying the game at 41 with his only points of the quarter.
Ryan Branagan led the Seraphs with 28 points, including eight in overtime and eight in the fourth quarter. Branagan buried nine of 13 shots from the field and drained nine of 11 free throws. He added six assists. Teammate Sam Miles scored 11 and added 14 rebounds and five assists.
HENRY HUDSON 66, ASBURY PARK 53: Jacob Link had 18 points and 10 rebounds and Jim Trivett added 11 points and 13 rebounds as the Admirals (3-11, 2-8) defeated the Blue Bishops (3-8, 2-8) in a Class B Central game for their first win over Asbury Park in at least 10 seasons, according to head coach Vinnie Whitehead.
Link had eight points in the fourth quarter when Henry Hudson outscored Asbury Park, 22-12.
Jaxon Terrell added 13 points. He had six in the third quarter.
Asbury Park’s D’Andre Pittman led all scorers with 23 points, including five 3-pointers.
MANCHESTER 54, JACKSON LIBERTY 43: Senior guard Mason Jones scored 28 points and added six rebounds, four steals and two assists for the host Hawks (5-9, 5-5) in their Class B South win over the Lions.
Jones scored eight in the first half as the Hawks took a 23-18 lead. He put home 12 in the third quarter, as the Hawks went ahead, 40-31. Devin Tomei added 12 rebounds and three steals. Antoine Brown contributed five assists.
Mike Healy led the Lions with 15 points, nine in the second half. Dan Niblack added 12.
JACKSON MEMORIAL 66, BRICK 32: Eric Carter scored 16, Nick Specht netted 14, Pete Heltzel added 12 and Salaam Simon tossed in 10 as the host Jaguars (13-3, 9-1) downed the Green Dragons (2-13, 0-10) in Class A South.
Simon and Carter grabbed five rebounds each. Specht and Simon handed out three assists. The Jaguars’ Mike Specht and Gino Palummo scrapped for three steals each.
With Nick Specht scoring eight and Carter and Simon tossing in seven, the Jaguars took a 28-14 first-half lead. Carter scored eight in the third quarter.
MONSIGNOR DONOVAN 59, BARNEGAT 41: Jesse Hill scored 17 of his game-high 23 in the first half and Eamonn Kearney added six of his 10 points in the first quarter as the Griffins (8-6, 7-3) defeated the Bengals (3-13, 1-9) in a Class B South game.
Barnegat’s Kyle Morris scored six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter.
LACEY 51, TR EAST 45: Chris Iappico’s 21 points and Trevor Matthews’ 13 led the visiting Lions past the Raiders (3-11, 2-9) in Class A South.
Iappico scored 12 first-half points as Lacey took a 23-22 lead. Iappico and Matthews netted five points each in the fourth quarter. Dave Lewis and C.J. Hirschy led the Raiders with 12 points each.
BRICK MEMORIAL 61, TR SOUTH 44: Aaron Scheiderman scored 10 of his team high 24 points in the second quarter leading the Mustangs (6-8, 4-6) over the Indians (6-8, 4-6). in a Class A South game.
Tymere Berry scored 9 of his team-high 14 points in the third quarter for the Indians.
MATAWAN 73, HOWELL 53: Joe Piscopo scored 9 of his team-high 20 points in the first quarter, leading the Huskies (7-8) over the Rebels (1-12) in a nondivisional game. Jason Dunn also scored 10 of his 19 in the first half for the Huskies.
Donovan Griffith scored 7 of his team-high 11 points in the first half for the Rebels and Luke Sorge added 10 points.
