G.W. Carver senior Jeremy Johnson finds out today if he reached one of his major football goals this season.
Mr. Football will be named at a downtown banquet with Johnson and Fultondale quarterback ArDarius Stewart considered the two favorites.
The Alabama Sports Writers Association will name a back of the year and lineman of the year in seven divisions — one for each of the AHSAA’s six classifications and another for the AISA.
One of the winners will also be named Mr. Football.
Johnson, who completed almost 68 percent of his passes for 3,193 yards and 31 touchdowns this year, is one of three finalists for Class 6A back of the year.
Stewart ran for 1,923 yards and 35 touchdowns and threw for 1,034 yards and 11 scores this year. He was part of 50 touchdowns this year and 138 in his career.
Edgewood quarterback Dylan Ingram and Autauga Academy star O.J. Howard are finalists for the AISA’s back and lineman of the year, respectively.
Prattville offensive lineman Austin Golson is in the mix for a second straight year for 6A lineman of the year. Brantley’s Taylor Driggers is a finalist for 1A lineman of the year.
Ingram set a state record for passing yards last fall. Howard graduated early from Autauga and has started class at Alabama.
