Macy Fitzgerald is a four-year starter for the Marshfield girls golf team and is a leader on a team that has won two tournaments and placed third at another.
Fitzgerald is the senior leader on the team and has worked hard in the offseason playing several times a week and going to an occasional tournament to improve her game.
She has consistently shot in the mid 90s this season, scoring a 94, her low score of the season for 18-holes at the Rapids Invite Monday. She was third on the team with her 94.
How exciting is it to be winning tournaments and doing so well as a team?
This is the best team we’ve had, and it’s fun to be bringing home trophies and plaques from tournaments. We’ve worked hard and it’s nice to see it pay off.
What is it like playing with your younger sister?
We get along so it’s not difficult. It’s nice to have her on the team and she’s been playing well.
What is your favorite club?
My driver. I hit it super far and straight most of the time. Driving is the best part of golf.
What is the toughest golf course you have golfed and what is your favorite course?
Trappers Turn in Wisconsin Dells is a long and hilly course. It’s tough to play there. A lot of the time you don’t now where you ball goes. I really like Christmas Mountain, which is also in the Dells. There is a lot of pretty scenery on that course.
People would be surprised that I __?
Do well in school because I goof around so much and talk a lot.
What are your plans for next year?
I’m going to attend UW-La Crosse to study physical therapy. I want to work with people who have sports-related injuries and help them get back to their sport.
