Senior Sadie Zurfluh was part of Assumption’s WIAA Division 5 state championship basketball team last winter and was on the Royals’ 2011 state runner-up soccer team.
In addition to being a three-sport athlete, Zurfluh is involved in many school activities including the musical, band and student council. Her younger sister, Macie, is a teammate on all three teams with Sadie.
Is it fun to have a younger sister on all three sports teams? I think it’s good. I can teach her about what is required of our programs and she can learn from my mistakes. And it’s fun to share the different experiences with sports. It was special to experience state basketball with her.
How does volleyball prepare you for other sports? It’s different because there isn’t that physical aspect, unless you run into a teammate. Volleyball is such a mental game and everyone has to be focused and communicating on the floor. From that aspect, it helps with teamwork for every other sport.
What sport have you been playing the longest? Soccer. I’ve been doing that since I could walk. I think I started rec basketball at the YMCA in third grade and I started volleyball in middle school.
What other activities are you involved with at school and what is your favorite? I’m in choir, the musical and I play the flute in the band. I’m student council president; that’s an honor because my classmates elected me and that means the most to me. I like being part of planning events during the school year.
If you could meet any person in history, who would it be and why? Eleanor Roosevelt. I’ve written a lot of papers on her and studied her whole life. I would want to ask her if she thought she influenced the world as much as she did.
What are you plans for next year? I want to major in political science and I’d like to play soccer. I’m looking at Alverno, St. Norbert, UW-Green Bay, Eau Claire and Marquette.
