CBA's Pillari commits to Naval Academy

Christian Brothers Academy senior guard Louie Pillari made a verbal commitment to play basketball for the United States Naval Academy, the senior guard told the Asbury Park Press.

Pillari, a six-foot-five and 185 pound guard, had Navy, Army, Pace and St. Thomas Aquinas College as his final four schools. He made unofficial visits to all four schools but only took one official visit and that was to Navy this past weekend.

“While I was there, I met a great group of players and everyone is pretty much a family there and the coaching staff is great too,” Pillari said. “I’ve had a great relationship with (associate head coach) Dan Earl and the entire coaching staff showed me how I would fit in when I get there.”

Pillari said Navy wants him to play shooting guard when he gets there but there is possibility he could be a combo guard in different situations. He still has one year left of high school basketball and he’ll be one of the important players for the Colts this winter.

“I have to be a leader this season and coach (CBA coach Geoff) Billet said he’s relying on me to make plays especially when we play some of the better teams,” Pillari said. “I don’t just want to make plays for myself but I want to make plays for my teammates, too.”
