Central Catholic took over the No. 1 spot in the Associated Press Class 2A football poll, while West Lafayette moved up to No. 5 in 3A and McCutcheon debuted at No. 9 in 5A.

McCutcheon has not won more than three games in a season since 2006 or had a winning season since 2002. But the Mavericks gained poll support with a 30-6 victory over Zionsville two weeks ago and moved into the top 10 after an 18-15 victory over Lafayette Jeff.

Central Catholic, which won the past four Class A state championships, had been ranked No. 2 since the preseason poll. The Knights moved up with their victory over Twin Lakes and former No. 1 Ritter’s loss to Class 3A No. 1 Brebeuf.

West Lafayette, which has outscored its three opponents 132-29, moved up one spot into the top five.

Rensselaer held at No. 7 in 2A. In Class A, No. 5 West Central and No. 6 Fountain Central held their spots while Attica debuted at No. 10.
