Central Magnet came back from a one-run deficit to beat host Sequoyah 5-3 on Saturday afternoon to punch its ticket to the BlueCross Spring Fling Class AA state baseball tournament.
The state tournament berth comes in the school’s second year of varsity play.
The Tigers (24-15) will play Dyersburg (27-11) at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Smyrna High in the opening round of the state tournament.
“It’s big to get there,” Central Magnet coach Buddy Powers said. “Our players have done it on the field and in the classroom. I’m so proud of them.”
Trailing 3-2 in the third, Central Magnet tied it in the fourth when Jacob Crume scored on Will Norfleet’s fielder’s choice. An inning later, Central took the lead when Colt Flippo singled in Makenzie Jackson. Flippo, who went 2-for-4, was playing with a broken hand sustained during Monday’s region semifinals.
Austin Worley also played despite playing a broken bone in his hand sustained Monday.
The Tigers added an insurance run in the sixth.
