No. 3 Chandler High entered its first-round playoff game against No. 15 Mesa Skyline on a roll, having won its final six regular-season games.
The winning streak is now at seven after Chandler defeated Skyline 55-16, advancing to the Division I quarterfinals, where it will face Chandler Basha.
Skyline did not do itself any favors in the first half by repeatedly giving Chandler good field position on a fumble, a failed onside kick, and a failed fake punt.
Chandler took full advantage.
After a 4-yard touchdown run on its first possession by quarterback Bryce Perkins gave Chandler a 7-0 lead, Skyline answered with a 49-yard touchdown run by Logan Ruppert. A converted two-point conversion gave Skyline an 8-7 lead midway through the first quarter, and it appeared fans were in for a back-and-forth affair.
It was not to be, however, as Chandler (9-2) responded with 35 unanswered points, not allowing Skyline (6-5) to score again until just two seconds remained in the third quarter.
Chandler used a balanced offensive attack to put Skyline away early. Perkins rushed for two touchdowns and threw for two more, connecting with Elijah Sykes and UCLA-bound Dionte Sykes.
Chase Lucas added two first-half touchdown runs.
