Free throws played a huge role as Chenango Valley was able to outlast neighbor Chenango Forks, 46-36, in a Southern Tier Athletic Conference boys basketball game on Saturday night.
The Warriors made 20 free throws, more than double the Blue Devils. Chris Ruffo had 24 points to lead Chenango Valley (7-5), while Zach Collins was a constant threat with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, four blocked shots and three steals.
Chenango Forks hit on 6 of 11 free-throw attempts. Andrew Ziegenfus led Chenango Forks with 18 points.
Seton Catholic Central 41, Oxford 31: Oxford cut the Saints lead to 30-25 with three minutes remaining in the game, but turned the ball over the next couple of possessions and were unable to cut into the deficit any further.
The Saints were led by Cody O’Neill and Patrick Gosney, who scored 11 points apiece.
Chenango Valley 3, Vestal 2: Chenango Valley handed Vestal only its second loss of the season as Gene DeAngelo scored twice and Mike Ferranti added a goal.
Dan English made 21 saves for Chenango Valley. Kenny King and Joe Eiskant had goals for Vestal.
Chenango Valley 47, Chenango Forks 20: Dani Forbidussi scored eight points in the first quarter to help Chenango Valley (6-6) get the win on Friday in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference.
Hannah Elliott also chipped in 10 points and grabbed a game high 14 rebounds. Forbidussi finished with 11 points on her 16th birthday. Michaela Transue led Chenango Forks with nine points.
