ELMA, N.Y.-During his 40 years at Iroquois High School there have been many great moments for Pete Tonsoline. Friday afternoon the Chiefs field hockey team provided another one giving Tonsoline win number 300 as head coach with a 5-1 win over Holland.
When the final horn sounded players mobbed the head coach who has also guided the Chiefs softball team to 300 wins in his career. Tonsoline was given a congratulatory cake and cookie cake. As the team posed for a picture they chanted “one, two, three hundred”.
While players congratulated their coach he kept telling them it was about them and not him. Then he told Two On Your Side’s Stu Boyar “that’s all it is, its not a matter of attaining records but bringing so many of these players, and I’ve had mothers play for me and its all about them. Its all about them, its very special.”
