TODAY’S GAMES

B.C. Central (1-3) at Harper Creek (3-1), 7 P.M.

Scouting report: Battle Creek Central has lost to Harper Creek four straight times, having been outscored 189-28 during that stretch. Going into last week, BCC’s defense has been a strength, giving up just over 14 points a game, but the Bearcats saw Lakeview score 40 on them in a loss in Week 4. Victor Conley has been a bright spot on offense with 163 yards rushing on the season and three touchdowns.

Great Gridder: BCC’s Mike Pettis has led the Bearcats with 32 tackles and two fumble recoveries on the season.

Harper Creek (3-1) vs. B.C. Central (1-3), 7 P.M.

Scouting report: Harper Creek has been uneven this season on offense, having scored only 14 points in a win over Marshall and had just a 16-6 lead over Coldwater at halftime last week before pulling away. Anthony McNichols continues to have a strong season for the Beavers, averaging 5.8 yards per carry and nearly 100 yards a game so far.

Great Gridder: Trenton Pruitt had 124 yards rushing and three TDs vs. CHS.

Lakeview (4-0) vs. Gull Lake (1-3), 7 P.M.

Scouting report: Gull Lake earned its first win of the season last week, beating Loy Norrix. The Blue Devils’ 6-foot-5 Odell Miller has two touchdowns receiving for the Devils and leads the team in tackles with 39. Lakeview has yet to be scored on this season and the Spartans have some good memories matching up with Gull Lake as Lakeview beat them in final game of the year last year to qualify for the playoffs.

Great Gridder: Lakeview’s Alex Schwartz had two interceptions in win over BCC.

Pennfield (4-0) at Maple Valley (1-3), 7 P.M.

Scouting report: Once one of the tougher opponents Pennfield would see on its schedule, going back to the days of the SMAA, the Panthers have been too much for Maple Valley since the Lions joined the Kalamazoo Valley Association with seven straight wins. Pennfield has rolled over opponents so far, giving up just 13 points on the season. The Panthers have spread the wealth with eight players with 80 or more yards rushing this season already.

Great Gridder: Dawan Smith had six tackles and a touchdown reception in win over Delton Kellogg.

St. Philip (3-0) vs. Michigan Lutheran (1-3), 7 p.m. Saturday

Scouting report: St. Joseph Michigan Lutheran is in its first year playing 8-man football and has only been playing football recently since 2008 after stopping the program in the 1980s. Michigan Lutheran is coming off a 45-0 win over Waldron. The Tigers have only allowed 15 total points this season and beat previously undefeated Burr Oak last week 49-0.

Great Gridder: Hunter Haley had three touchdown catches last week.
