Top-ranked Pierre’s passing attack contributed most of the damage against Harrisburg and put the Govs into Friday’s Class 11AA championship game with a 45-13 win at home Friday night.
Quarterback Alexander Grey finished 17 of 24 for 309 yards and 2 touchdowns to lead Pierre (9-1), which took a 31-0 lead into halftime and led 38-0 midway through the third quarter.
Grey threw one TD pass to Garrett Pochop, who fronted the Govs receiving corps with nine catches for 187 yards (a school record) and a 17-yardscore.
The other was to Austin Christopherson, who finished with six catches for 95 yards and a 1-yard TD.
Matthew Green caught Pierre’s third receiving TD for 7 yards from backup Brevin Kaiser.
“If we just play as hard as we can, we think we can do some great things,” Gray said. “The offensive line played great, and the receivers did a great job of getting open.”
Ethan Case provided the offense early with a 5-yard TD rush (his first of three on the night) to give Pierre a 7-0 lead after its first possession.
Case would score three minutes later from three yards out to make it 14-0.
Grey’s pass to Christopherson made it 21-0, followed by Pochop’s TD catch and a Pochop 25-yard field goal to make it 31-0 at halftime.

The Tigers were scoreless until the fourth quarter, when Slaughter completed a 22-yard pass to Devon Thilges with 8:46 remaining. Slaughter then connected with Cody Berkhof for a 70-yard TD to make it 45-13.
