ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.-Alden plays long time rival Depew for the Section 6 Class B championship Saturday afternoon at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Alden crushed Springville 42-7 to win the championship last year. Senior quarterback Brian Stoldt told Two On Your Side’s Stu Boyar that playing at the Ralph never gets old. “Its always a thrill to play here. Our team, we worked very hard for this opportunity. We’ve earned it. Now we’ve got another great opportunity on our hands to go win a Sectional title here against Depew. Its going to be a great game, they’re a great football team. Our guys are excited, they’re excited we just can’t wait.”
The Bulldogs beat the Wildcats 28-7 during the regular season. Depew has been missing senior quarterback Anthony Buono all season. He suffered a broken collarbone. Another senior running back Rodney Turner has had an ankle injury and has missed playing time. Despite that the Wildcats are in the championship game. Head coach Brian Wilson said while Buono and others haven’t been playing they have still provided great leadership. “He hasn’t been with us on the field but he’s a great leader and he’s provided great leadership for us off the field. He’s done so much to mentor Dylan Sekuterski who stepped in at quarterback. Its those type of relationships that have helped us when some of the people we expected to be leading us couldn’t be there.”
