Class B volleyball roundup: Third-seeded Chester breezes by Lyman

Thursday was not a good day to be an underdog at the state Class B high school volleyball tournament at the Huron Arena.

The teams ranked 1-2-3-4 in the state all won in straight sets.

In today’s semifinals, it will be No. 1 Warner vs. No. 3 Alcester-Hudson at 6 p.m. and No. 2 Arlington vs. No. 4 Chester Area at 7:45. In the consolation round, Herreid-Selby Area will face Harding County at noon and Lyman will meet Kimball-White Lake at 1:45.

CHESTER AREA DEF. LYMAN 25-21, 25-18, 25-17 – Rachel Reiff had 14 kills, Logan Miller 10 and Elena Borah eight for the Flyers (27-2). Erin Benson had 22 digs and Jenna Reiff 13. Sara Heyn had 40 set assists and Rachel Reiff had two solo blocks. For Lyman (24-9), Jessica Welter had nine kills and three block assists. Sara Herman had 20 digs and Anna Flitner 14. Hanna Thiry had 11 set assists and Bailey Almond 10.

ARLINGTON DEF. KIMBALL-WHITE LAKE 25-10, 25-16, 25-16 – Samantha Boeck’s 20 kills, eight digs and two solo blocks paced the Cardinals (32-1). Brett Heuer had 31 set assists and eight digs, and Brooke Hennrich had three aces. For Kimball-White Lake (19-8), Ivy Haines had five kills, three solo blocks and two block assists. Mary Kroupa had nine set assists and Jazmyn Hinker had 12 digs.

ALCESTER-HUDSON DEF. HARDING COUNTY 25-16, 25-18, 25-14 – The Cubs (31-2) won as Kassidy Walth had 12 kills and 10 digs. Courtney McKee had seven kills, 22 set assists and 10 digs. Jamie Jansen also had seven kills. Shenia Doering had 18 digs, Lindsey Terpstra 17 and Skylar McConnell 11. Doering had four block assists and Sierra McConnell had one solo block and two block assists. For Harding County (26-6), Megan Adams had 20 digs and Sierra Stugelmeyer 16, and each had four kills. Callie Shepherd had eight set assists and Bryce Olson had two solo blocks.

WARNER DEF. HERREID-SELBY AREA 25-10, 25-15, 25-11 – The defending champion Monarchs (31-1) cruised to the win as Carly Rozell had 13 kills, Jaici Schlosser 12 and Miranda Ristau 10. Ashley Rozell had 38 set assists and Kaityln Boesl had eight digs. Boesl also had three aces. For Herreid-Selby Area (20-12), Haylee Biel had five kills, one solo block and three block assists. Grace Russell had 15 set assists and Kelsey Quashnick had six digs.
