ORCHARD PARK, N.Y.-Defending State Champion Randolph beat Maple Grove 35-12 Friday night at Ralph Wilson Stadium to repeat as Section 6 champions. Randolph will move on to the Far West Regionals in Rochester next weekend.
Maple Grove scored first in the game after a botched punt by Randolph. Maple Grove’s Graham Nelson ran in a 8 yard touchdown which gave Maple Grove a 6-0 lead in the first quarter. Randolph quickly responded with a one yard touchdown catch by Devyn Nelson. Maple Grove’s Jonah Tanner then caught a touchdown from quarterback Kyle Mayer which gave Maple Grove a 12-7 lead. Mayer was injured on the play and did not return to the game.
After the injury, Maple Grove’s offense could not sustain drives and Randolph capitalized with a Chris Doubek 23 yard touchdown run and a five yard touchdown catch from Lucas Brown. Randolph led 21-12 at halftime.
Late in the third quarter Randolph’s Devyn Nelson ran for a two yard touchdown to give Randolph a 28-12 lead. Randolph would score one more time in the fourth quarter as Nick Hetterbaugh catches a 55 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Mitchell Maycock.
Randolph’s running back Chris Doubek had 92 yards on 18 carries in the first half. He ran for a total of 154 yards on 31 carries and one touchdown. Quarterback Mitchell Maycock was 5-8 for 99 yards and three touchdowns.
Randolph will play a team from Section 5, Rochester next Friday night at Sahlen’s Stadium in Rochester. Kickoff is scheduled for 5-pm. .
