Senior Quinn Cochrane drove in three runs and senior left-hander A.J. Celentano went six innings to lead South Plainfield High’s baseball team to a 10-2 win over Colonia in a North 2 Group III first-round game.
The No. 2 seeded Tigers will play host to seventh-seed Governor Livingston Friday afternoon in a sectional quarterfinal.
Celentano allowed seven hits, one earned run and struck out two.
Cochrane was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Senior Nick Muglia was 2-for-3 with a run scored, two RBI and a double and senior Taylor Born was 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI.
Central Group I
Point Pleasant Beach 8, South Hunterdon 3: The 12th-seeded Eagles (6-13) took a 3-0 first inning lead, but John VanShoick threw five scoreless inning, allowing just one hit to pick up the win. Ryan Prima’s two-out, two-run double gave the No. 5-seed Gulls a 4-3 lead. Zach Yates was 3-for-3 with two runs scored and an RBI and Danny Pfefferkorn was 1-for-2 with two RBI. Nick Fiore and Paul Fiorentino delivered RBI doubles both scored a run.
Ridge 6, North Hunterdon 4 (9 innings): Sean Fuchs drove in the game winner for the Red Devils (15-8) in a game that was made up from a April rain out. Junior shortstop Marc Monks had two doubles and C.J. Rasile had one for North Hunterdon (15-11).
Piscataway Tech 9, Warren Tech 4: Celin Rojas went seven innings and was 3-for-3 with two RBI and Piscataway Tech (1-20) recorded its first win of the season. Rojas also had two walks and four stolen bases and Eric Zimmer was 2-for-4 with two RBI and three stolen bases. Warren Tech is 9-4.
Westfield 6, Linden 1: Westfield (14-11) scored four runs in the fourth to put this one away. The Tigers, 6-17, will play at Westfield Friday in a North 2 Group IV quarterfinal.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood 16, Woodbridge 3 (5 innings): The Raiders, eliminated by Westfield in a North 2 Group IV first-round game Monday, rolled to the mercy rule victory.
Piscataway 15, South River 4: Jordan Scott went 3-for-4 with a double and two-run homer and finished with four RBI as the Chiefs rolled. Casey Poulsen went 2-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and two RBI and Charles Mitchell went 2-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI for the Chiefs (10-16)
Middlesex 10, Perth Amboy 4: C.J. Lyons had two hits, two runs scored and three RBI that featured a two-run triple to lead Middlesex. Jeff Reincke was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Kris Fellin had two RBI. Brennan Price and Kyle Dotey had two hits apiece for the Blue Jays (20-4).
