CN baseball: Immaculata Blanked By Watchung Hills' Rocchietti


Senior righty Joey Rocchietti threw a complete game one- hitter, striking out eight and walking one to Watchung Hills to a 2-0 win over Immaculata at Diamond Nation.

Watchung Hills scored both runs in the first inning on RBI from Christian Meyers and James D’Annunzio. Watchung is 12-3, while Immaculata is 6-6. The Spartans have lost four straight.

Pingry 2, Bernards 0: Cole McCollum (5-1) outdueled Brendan Ball (3-1) in a Skyland Valley Division game; McCollum allowed five hits while walking one, hitting two and striking out one for Pingry (9-5), which won its third straight and third straight shutout. Ball surrendered four hits.

Ryan Toomey was 2-3 with an RBI for Pingry. Senior outfielder John Maddaluna had two hits for Bernards (11-2), which stranded seven.

Somerville 11, Ridge 4: Somerville’s Chris McTernan singled in two runs in a three -run third and Somerville scored four times in the fifth on Connor De Pace’s RBI single and a two-run double by Kyle Czarnecki to lift Somerville. Junior Blaze Aranzullo (1-2) pitched 4 2/3 for the win, allowing seven hits.

Montgomery 9, Bridgewater-Raritan 2: Mike Ippolito and a homer, triple and four RBI for Montgomery (12-1). Bridgewater-Raritan is 11-6.

Union Catholic 2, New Providence 1: T.J. Hartnett pitched a complete game seven-hitter and Ryan Kahn and Ryan DePaul had RBI to lead Union Catholic (12-3) in a Union County Conference Mountain Division game. Hartnett (4-0) struck out five in the seven-inning complete game. New Providence is 7-7.

Dunellen 15, Timothy Christian 3: Casey Wenzel went 2-for-4, recording the 100th hit of his career with a fourth-inning single, while leading Dunellen. Paul Appleton had a two-run homer for the Destroyers (13-1). Luke Cruver and Matt Zgorzynski had two hits apiece for the Tigers (3-9).

Hunterdon Central 7, North Hunterdon 5: The Red Devils (9-7) avenged a 12-6 loss to the Lions by rallying on a three-run homer. North is 10-5.

Hillsborough 8, Phillipsburg 6: Tyler Widitz had a double, homer and four RBI for Hillsborough (9-6).

Westfield 7, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 3: The Blue Devils avenged a season-opening loss by taking advantage of 10 walks.

Manville 4, Sussex Tech 2: Right-hander Anthony Zuhone pitched a complete-game, one hitter, striking out 10 as Manville earned its first win of the season.

Union Catholic 2, New Providence 0: TJ Hartnett went the distance for Union Catholic (12-3) yielding six hits, walking one and striking out five over seven shutout innings. Ryan Kahn and Ryan DePaul had RBI’s for the Vikings. Matt Schwartz finished 1-for-2 for New Providence (7-7).

Plainfield 12, St. Mary 2: Senior righty Wilfredo Medina pitched six innings and didn’t allow an earned run and singled and scored a run for Plainfield (4-10). Catcher Rafael Suazo went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and a triple and first baseman Luis Jimenez went 2-for-3 with three RBI and a double.
