Junior Olivia Smutek scored two goals and Shea Raver added a goal and an assist Monday to lead the Manville High School girls soccer team to a 3-1 victory over South River.
Smutek got things going for the Mustangs (1-1), netting the opening tally 10:33 into the contest, before Raver made it 2-0 with a goal 1:28 later. Smutak provided the capper after Helen Carneiro struck for the Rams just before halftime off a pass from Victoria Gil.
Amber Lathi made eight saves for Manville, while Breona Hill made 10 stops for South River (1-1).
Tech 6, Paterson Catholic 0: Harleen Singh, Emily Molfetta and Hanna Krilov each tallied a goal and an assist, while Kaycie Sconda made two saves, as Somerset Tech notched a shutout in its opener. Julia Heller, Emily Wasik and Stephanie Gonzalez also hit for the Jags.
Governor Livingston 5, Verona 0: Lindsay DiStaso scored four minutes into the game to get things started, and Olivia Emanuel finished with three saves to earn the shutout, as Governor Livingston improved to 2-0. DiStaso finished with a goal and an assist for the Highlanders, while Amanda Bostwick also tallied a goal and an assist n the victory.
Piscataway 3, South Plainfield 0: Asia Hurley, Kelsey Nugent, Lela Allen and Ayana Garvin all struck for Piscataway, which won its opener. Danielle Grant and Darcy Gallego picked up assists for the Chiefs, while Jackie McEvoy made 11 saves to earn the shutout. Sydni Suroweic made 17 saves for South Plainfield.
Scotch Plains-Fanwood 7, North Brunswick 0: Katie Harper and Kelly Yeager each netted two goals to power Scotch Plains-Fanwood. Tori Bailaatico, Alyssa DiFrancesco and Kayla Diggs also scored for the Raiders (2-0).
Bernards 5, Middlesex 0: Avery Bolton scored in ninth minute and Shannon Phillips added two goals to lead Bernards (2-1). Laura Galli and Lauren Schmidt also scored for the Mountaineers, who got 10 saves from Sarah Ryan. Katlyn Schweyher recorded 15 saves for Middlesex (0-1).
Union Catholic 2, Linden 1: Sophomore Gabi Martes snapped a 1-1 tie in the 65th minute and Union Catholic stayed undefeated. Senior Kaitlyn Njorge got things going for the Vikings (2-0), scoring five minutes into the game off a Kate Lowe pass. Linden tied it in the 55th minute before Chynna Adorno set Martes up for the game winner.
