CN Softball: Bridgewater-Raritan tops Voorhees

Kayla VanValkenberg went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and Alyssa Natale went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI Monday to lead the Bridgewater-Raritan High School softball team to a 4-2 victory over Voorhees at North Bridge Street Field.

Sophomroe righty Abby Herman allowed two earned runs on six hits to earn the win for the Panthers (8-13).

Morgan Clemens went 2-for-3 with a run scored for Voorhees (11-6), while Erin Hollyfield drove in a run.

North Hunterdon 6, Westfield 4 (11 innings): Taylor Knoble, Isabella Many and Carly Severini each delivered RBI in the top of the 11th inning and North Hunterdon held on to win via the international tiebreaker. The teams were knotted 1-1 through seven innings, after Severini hit the game’s first pitch over the left-field fence and Westfield tied it in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Elena Scorano. Neither club scored in the eighth or ninth, before the Lions plated two in the 10th on an RBI double by Severini and a sacrifice fly by Kayla Parker. The Blue Devils knotted it up in the bottom of the frame, with Lizzie Fox scoring on an error and Julia Criscuolo driving in Chrissy Ferraro.

New Providence 10, Cranford 1: Kelsey Quinn and Samantha Squeri each posted two hits and two RBI as New Providence won its ninth straight. Kaylin Ricciardi also drove in two runs for the Pioneers (12-3), while Cassandra Squeri picked up the victory, combining with Quinn, and also smacked a solo home run.

Manville 24, Piscataway Tech 9 (4 inn.): Emily Velez went 4-for-4 with two doubles and Rachael Janes went 4-for-4 with two triples to lead Manville to its first victory.

Mount St. Mary 6, North Plainfield 0: Katie Haley tossed a four-hit shutout to lead Mount St. Mary while Jackie Phillips, Anna Ames, and Sarah Regnault all colelcted two hits apiece to lead the Mount Lions (12-5). Kendra Egbert double for North Plainfield (1-12).

7, Hunterdon Central 3: Haley Leonhauser, Meghan McGuire, and Sarah Merlo all drove in runs for Hunterdon Central.

Pingry 6, Montclair Kimberley 1: Katie Marino went 3-for-4 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored to lead Pingry. Marino also got the win as she struck out 10, walked two, and allowed no earned runs on four hits.

Gill St. Bernard’s 19, South Hunterdon 3 (6 inn.): Cara Napolitano went 4-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored to lead Gill St. Bernard’s (15-6) while Eliza Brookman, Meg Donlin, Sally gordon, and Amanda Greenberg all collected three hits for the Knights. South Hunterdon is 6-10.

J.P. Stevens 4, South Plainfield 3: A three-run sixth inning lifted J.P. Stevens (17-3), as Kayla Smith (2-for-4) hit a one-out RBI single and a two base error allowed the tying run to score and Smith to take third. Amanda Lombardi followed with a sac fly to deep center to plate Smith for the go-ahead run. Ruth Zimmerman went 3-for-3 for the Hawks while Rebecca Coleman allowed three earned runs on four hits for the win. Shannon McMahon led off the game with a home run and Haley Hlavka drove in two runs for South Plainfield (15-6).

Roselle Catholic 18, Plainfield 0: Nylizia Cagle and Ariel Brown had the only two hits for Plainfield (3-9).

Dunellen 11, Timothy Christian 0 (5 inn.): Audrey Mongeau pitched a five-inning no-hitter with eight strikeouts and Kerry Johnson went 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI to led 23rd-seeded Dunellen (5-16) past 26th-seeded Timothy Christian (10-8).
