Freshman Katie Marino singlehandedly led the Pingry School softball team to victory on Wednesday as she tossed a three-hit shutout and hit a solo home run in the fifth inning for the game’s only run as the Big Blue defeated Mount St. Mary 1-0 in Basking Ridge.
Marino struck out 15 and walked one for the win.
Katie Haley was equally dominant for the Mount Lions as she allowed an earned run on two hits, striking out 10 and walking three.
Westfield 11, Bridgewater-Raritan 3: Julia Criscuolo went 3-for-3 with a triple, two RBI, and three runs scored to lead Westfield (9-2). Bobbi Snyder and Elena Scarano each collected two hits for the Blue Devils while Shannon Schaefer allowed an earned run on six hits for the win. Jordan Stephenson went 2-for-4 with a double for Bridgewater-Raritan (4-7) while Megan Zinn hit a two-run homer in her first varsity plate appearance.
Delaware Valley 10, Newton 0 (6 inn.): Megan Mount pitched a one-hitter, Shannon Croasdale went 2-for-2 and scored three runs, and Kelly Johnson and Haley Pilone went 3-for-3 as Delaware Valley (4-10) cruised in the opening round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament.
Bound Brook 7, North Plainfield 4: Aimee Sarboukh went 4-for-4 with a double, two RBI, and two runs scored to lead Bound Brook (7-5). Allison Staagard homered for the Crusaders while Charli Filmore struck out nine, walked one, and allowed two earned runs on six hits for the win. North Plainfield is 0-7.
Middlesex 3, Cardinal McCarrick 2 (8 inn.): Salina Pellios hit a hard single to second base in the bottom of the eighth inning to score Katie Lauria from second base to lift Middlesex (4-6) to the walk off win.
Lauria allowed two runs on five hits for the win while Jessica Kennick went 2-for-2 with a home run for the Blue Jays.
Jackie Riley hit a game-tying RBI single with two outs in the top of the seventh inning for Cardinal McCarrick (6-3) while she allowed three runs on seven hits, striking out 12 and walking one as she took the loss.
Somerset Tech 5, Calvary Christian 0: Giannie Cintron, Ashnee Patel, Kaycie Sconda, and Courtney Kahlsdorf all had a hit and RBI for Somerset Tech (5-3) while Kahlsdorf tossed a no-htter with 12 strikeouts and five walks.
Wardlaw-Hartridge 17, South River 0 (4 inn.): Ali Yamakaitis went 3-for-4 with a triple and seven RBI while Steph Smyczek 3-for-4 with a home run, two doubles, and four RBI to lead Wardlaw-Hartridge (9-0). Yamakaitis allowed only one hit for the shutout win. Bridget Laplante had the lone South River (7-5) hit.
Kittatinny 14, South Hunterdon 0: Karley Bussow struck out 10 and walked none as Kittatinny (4-7) shut out South Hunterdon (3-6) in the opening round of the Hunterdon/Warren/Sussex Tournament.
Metuchen 11, Dunellen 0 (5 inn.): Junior Nicole Camera went 3-for-4 with a two-run home run as she collected her 100th career hit while also tossing a no-hitter to lead Metuchen (9-4). Dunellen is 3-10.
East Brunswick Tech 26, Piscataway Tech 8: The Tigers improve to 2-8 while the Raiders are 0-10.
Belvidere 10, Gill St. Bernard’s 3: The Knights (8-4) were out-hit 12-6.
Dayton 12, Scotch Plains-Fanwood 10: The Raiders (4-9) rallied for five runs in the bottom of the seventh, but it wasn’t enough.
