Freshman righty Katie Marino threw a five-inning perfect game Thursday, striking out 10, and The Pingry School softball team clinched the Skyland Conference Valley Division championship with a 10-0 victory over Bound Brook.
Marino went 3-for-4 at the plate with a homer, two runs and three RBI, while senior catcher Jaime Ferns added two hits, including a double, a run and two RBI as the Big Blue improved to 17-2. The Crusaders fell to 10-12.
Hunterdon Central 8, Bridgewater-Raritan 7 (10 innings): Haley Leonhauser doubled with none out in the 10th inning, chasing home Erika Evans who started the inning on second base, as per the international tiebreaker rule, and Hunterdon Central edged Bridgewater-Raritan. The Panthers (9-15) were one out away from winning it in the seventh inning before the Red Devils tied it on an error. Bridgewater-Raritan had taken the lead in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI single by Sarah Rebetje, who finished 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBI. Kayla VanValkenberg added two hits and two RBI for the Panthers. Emily Zengel went 3-for-5 with two runs, while Ally Hernandez went 3-for-5 with two RBI for Hunterdon Central (9-11).
Immaculata 8, Montgomery 0: Junior Josie Novak carried a no-hitter until allowing an infield hit with two outs in the seventh inning, but the right-hander retired the next batter to preserve the one-hit shutout for Immaculata. Novak finished with three walks and 12 strikeouts, while Leigh Ann Greenwald and Christiana Roberts each went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Spartans (14-6). Junior Kat Randolph posted the hit for Montgomery (5-17).
Hillsborough 6, Watchung Hills 0: Alyssa VanDerveer ripped a two-run homer in the first inning, and Jess Santelli, and Donna Conrad each drove in a run as Hillsborough won its 20th. Kelly Wishard improved to 9-1, going five innings, allowing two hits, no walks and striking out eight for the Raiders (20-1). Steph Huff, McKayla Brady and Dana Mertz each singled for Watchung Hills (18-5).
8, Linden 0: Cali Chambliss went 4-for-4 with a double, two triples, three runs and three RBI as Westfield won No. 16. Chrissy Ferraro also posted four hits and scored three runs for the Blue Devils (16-5), while Elena Scarano pitched a five-hit shutout, walked one and struck out eight, adding two hits and an RBI at the plate.
North Hunterdon 10, Phillipsburg 0 (6 innings): Carly Severini went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three runs, and Lauren Martino added three hits, three RBI and a run for North Hunterdon. Mason Spichiger allowed no runs on six hits in six innings, walked two and struck out six as the Lions improved to 18-8.
Somerset Tech 17, East Brunswick Tech 6: Courtney Kahlsdorf went 2-for-2 with a home run, four runs scored and five RBI to lead Somerset Tech. Giannie Cintron added two hits, including a double, two runs and three RBI for the Runnin’ Jags (13-7), while Naomi Sadlon added two hits, two runs and two RBI.
Bernards 21, Manville 4: Shea Murray and Lauren Schmitt each drove in three runs to lead Bernards (6-12). Rachel Janes doubled, tripled and drove in a pair for Manville (1-18).
Perth Amboy Tech 12, Timothy Christian 10: Meribeth Brookman went 4-for-4 with four RBI and Emily Kokosinski went 2-for-4 with a triple and four RBI for Timothy Christian (10-10).
Prep B final
13, Gill St. Bernard’s 7: Emma Corbett went 3-for-4 with a run and Paige Knichel hit a three-run homer in the second inning for fourth-seeded Gill St. Bernard’s, but No. 2 Newark Academy scored four times in the bottom of the second inning and rolled on to its second straight Prep B title at Diamond Nation. Kennedy Whitehead added a solo homer in the seventh inning for the Knights (16-7).
