GRAND LEDGE

With the CAAC Blue wrestling tournament right around the corner, Grand Ledge has been plenty busy preparing as they won two more conference meets before making a strong showing at the Portage Central Invitational held last weekend on Jan. 26.

“I’m pleased with where we’re at right now,” head coach Steve Delaney said. “Our kids have been wrestling pretty well for as young as they are. We’ve got our big meet with Holt this week for the regular season title. We match up with them pretty well. We’re both 6-0 in the league.” (The meet was held Wednesday evening after deadline.)

Before the Portage Central Invite the Comets crushed Lansing Everett on Jan. 16, 66-15. One week later they won 9 of 14 matches to cruise past East Lansing, 49-27.

Against the Vikings the Comets won the first six matches.

Against East Lansing, Tony Patino won by forfeit at 103 pounds.

At Portage the Comets scored 168 team points, just four points behind second place Grandville and not far behind tournament winner Hartland who scored 194 points.

“We wrestled pretty well,” Delaney said. There was some very good competition there and our kids held their own.”
