In what was a vitally important Class 7A, District 12 matchup, Eau Gallie High needed their do-everything senior wide receiver and linebacker to step up early to set the tone in their matchup with Martin County.
And on this night, the Commodores’ do-everything senior was “King” Kroupa.
Daniel Kroupa scored a pair of spectacular touchdowns in the first quarter that gave the Commodores a 14-0 lead and they never looked back as they hammered Martin County 31-0 on Friday night.
With the win, Eau Gallie has put itself in a position to make the postseason for the first time in 15 years with a win next week at Sebastian River.
“It’s huge, it’s everybody’s goal to go to the playoffs, win the state title, all those things and that’s why we play the game,” said Eau Gallie head coach Tim Powers on what a possible playoff berth would mean to his program.
The Commodores furthered the lead right after the halftime break as Torrance Brown’s one-yard run completed a drive three-and-a half minutes into the third quarter that put the Commodores up 22-0 following a fake off an extra point kick that netted them two additional points.
Alec Burak booted a 35-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter and Lance White caught a 13 pass from Torrance Brown with 7:36 in the fourth quarter to cap off the game’s scoring.
