Andrew Conforti is no stranger to lacrosse in Hunterdon County, and that should aide him greatly in his new endeavor.

Conforti, a former three-sport standout at Hunterdon Central High School, has been approved by the North Hunterdon-Voorhees Board of Education to take over a struggling boys lacrosse program at North Hunterdon High School.

Conforti succeeds Rory McPeek, who guided the Lions for three seasons.

“The administrative team has conducted a complete undertaking to find a good candidate that will continue a positive gel for our lacrosse players as our head lacrosse coach,” said John Deutsch, director of athletics at North Hunterdon High School. “Coach Conforti has the knowledge, attitude, educational background and is an encouraging role model to provide a positive lacrosse experience for our student athletes at North Hunterdon High School.”

Conforti has four years experience coaching boys lacrosse at the high school level as an assistant coach. Conforti played three sports at Hunterdon Central High School and in his senior year earned First Team All-State and All-American honors as a defensemen. He played collegiately at Rutgers where he was a four-year starter. Conforti was named captain his junior and senior years, both of which the team participated in the NCAA tournament.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to start a new era with the boys lacrosse program,” Conforti said. “I hope to create a positive experience for everyone involved with the program as we cultivate our ability to compete at a high level. There is a capable group of young men in our program and in our community.”

Conforti will continue in his position as a Special Education Teacher at North Hunterdon High School. His educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in History from Rutgers. He is currently completing his Masters Degree in Special Education at New Jersey City University.

“Coach Conforti’s lacrosse experience in high school and college make him a great choice and role model for our student-athletes,” said Dr. Richard Bergacs, Principal of North Hunterdon-Voorhees High School District. “We had a great deal of interest in the position and we are pleased that Coach Conforti has accepted the job. We are excited about the future of North Hunterdon Boys lacrosse.”
