Eau Gallie High graduate Dillon Cooper drew plenty of attention for his first baseball season at Alabama State.

The outfielder was named to the Louisville Slugger Freshman All-America team shortly after his selection as the Southwestern Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.

Cooper hit .301 and drove in 26 runs for the Hornets. He also hit 12 doubles and homered three times.

Cooper was a senior on the 2012 Commodores team that advanced to the Class 6A regional semifinal round.

Eau Gallie

Holy Trinity

When five Florida high schoolers joined Team USA for the Caribbean Scholastic Invitational in Puerto Rico last week, two were Tigers.

Gaby Gayles won the 400-meter dash with a time of 55.36 seconds, adding to the 1A state title she won in late April. Gayles also ran on the winning 4×400 relay squad that finished in 3:53.07 and the second-place 4×100 that turned in a time of 46.84 seconds.

Daryth Gayles ran a 12.19 in the preliminaries of the 100 meters, tying for the second-fastest time.

Melbourne

The Bulldogs basketball team will host a camp July 8-11 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. at the school’s gymnasium.

Melbourne Central Catholic

The Class 3A state champion Hustlers baseball team will host a camp from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. June 17-21. For information, contact Tom Dooley at dooleyt@melbournecc.org.

Merritt Island

The Mustangs will host a basketball shooting camp from 9 a.m. to noon June 17-18. The camp will be at the school’s gymnasium and cost $40 to register. For more information or to register, visit islandsports.net.

Viera

Viera’s baseball team will have camps this month for the Viera/Suntree Little League Camp of Champions at Viera Regional Park. There will be a hitting camp on June 17-18 and pitching on June 19-20 from 9 a.m. until noon.

The camps are intended for ages 6-14 and will cost $100 per camp.
