The Corning boys and the Vestal girls each repeated as team champions at the Southern Tier Athletic Conference track and field championships Thursday at Union-Endicott High School.
The Hawks won six events and finished with 129.5 points. Vestal was second with 92 and Ithaca placed third with 66.
Sophomore Kari Stromhaug won three events to lead the Golden Bears to 105 total points. Elmira placed second with 97 points, while Corning was third with 41.5. The Ithaca girls finished fifth (41).
Junior Mande Semon won the 100-meter dash (11.32 seconds) for the Little Red. He also placed sixth in the long jump (20 feet, 9¼ inches). Mande placed third in the 100 at last year’s STAC Championships (11.40).
Jordan Hackworth was second in the long jump (22-3) for the Little Red boys. Ithaca took first in the 400-meter relay (44.06), winning by almost a second over Maine-Endwell.
Sophomore Dan Dracup had a strong day for Ithaca. He finished third in the 800 (1:58.70) and fourth in the 400 (52.0).
Bruce Green placed second in the 200 (23.15). The Little Red picked up some big points in the pole vault as Jakob Markwardt was second (11-6) and David Franck was fourth (11-0).
Sidney Herman was sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:00.81) for the Ithaca boys.
Stromhaug won the triple jump, long jump, and pole vault to power the Golden Bears.
Emma Denman capped a strong day for the Ithaca girls with a third-place showing the 100 hurdles (16.13) and a sixth-place finish in the long jump (15-6½).
Lauren Trumble placed second in the 400-meter dash (1:00.78) and Sylvia Frank was fifth (1:02.08) for Ithaca.
Ithaca’s Jackie Cornell finished fourth in the 2,000 steeplechase (8:11.27) and the Little Red girls were third in the 1,600 relay (4:12.29).
Ihotu Onah (98-1) and Emma Preston (97-5) were fourth and fifth, respectively, in the discus for the Little Red. Preston also finished fifth in the shot put (31-3½).
Ithaca next competes in the Section 4 Class A championships on Thursday at Vestal.
