The Sherwood (Ore.) football team has outscored its opponents 554-96 this season, so head coach Greg Lawrence and his staff have resorted to some unusual tactics to keep things interesting. The latest? Friday’s fake extra point attempt against Putnam (Milwaukie, Ore.), during which Sherwood’s holder hopped off the field like a monkey.
The play, which featured 5-foot-5 kicker Martin Layna completing a two-point pass to 6-foot-11 tight end Jordan Kurahara, sounds like a circus act, but it’s called “The Wrecking Ball.” To our knowledge, it has nothing to do with Miley Cyrus.
“We have 32 seniors,” Lawrence told MaxPreps. “We’re trying to get of them in on special teams. We’ve been winning most games. We’ve been crushing everyone, so we’ve been trying to find things to make it fun for the kids.”
Here’s a somewhat less crazy Sherwood PAT play from earlier this season.
Lawrence said his team used “The Wrecking Ball” early in the game, so as not to show up Putnam. The Bowmen would go on to win, 62-7.
What do you think, Miley?
