Boys Outlook: From the region, Pingry senior Liam Mullett has a chance at the gold medal after placing fourth last fall. Mullett comes in with the seventh-fastest qualifying time of 15:49, 23 seconds off the pace of defending champ Tom O’Neill of Middletown North (15:26). From the Greater Middlesex Conference, Bishop Ahr senior Trent Brinkofski comes in at 16:21 and looks to break the school record of 16:04 set by big brother Teddy. Team-wise, Westfield comes in with the fifth-fastest average (16:41) after placing second in Group IV. Christian Brothers is a runaway favorite.

Girls Outlook: Gill St. Bernard’s senior Dana Klein comes in ranked 10 th after winning Non-Public B in 18:42, and North Hunterdon junior Eve Glasergreen (13th, 18:50) is not far behind, but it will be tough to unseat Tenafly’s Josette Norris (18:12). The Greater Middlesex Conference will be represented by Old Bridge senior Rachel Belmont (19:25). Team-wise, Hillsborough’s hopes at a third MOC crown were dashed when top runner Stephanie Mauer was shelved by a stress fracture. Defending champ Voorhees was one of nine squads to average sub-20:00 at the groups and has a shot at a top-six finish and a spot on the awards podium. Metuchen also qualified after placing third in Group I.
