D5 boys hoops regionals: Kohler moves on with 55-42 win over Christian

The last time Sheboygan Christian visited Kohler’s basketball court, the Blue Bombers shot just over 20 percent from the field.

That game didn’t go well for Kohler, which lost 41-31 and fell to the Eagles for the second time in the regular season.

With considerably more on the line Tuesday, Kohler came out with some hotter hands. In a WIAA regional quarterfinal, the Blue Bombers shot roughly 46 percent to beat Christian 55-42.

“We shot the ball fairly well from the field,” coach Ken Roeder said.

Tyler Lewis scored a game-high 19 points and Dominic Bocchini added 14 more to lead Kohler (9-14) through their first postseason test.

Josh Stecker paced Christian (6-17) with 16 points, and Caleb Kelley added 10.

“Calvin Stefanczyk did a real nice job coming off the bench,” Roeder added, noting the 6-foot junior forward played solid minutes after Lewis stepped off the court in foul trouble midway through the first half.

“It was just a good team win,” Roeder said.

Lewis finished the game with six rebounds. Brennan Ladwig, who finished the game with eight points, had seven rebounds and six assists.

The Bombers, seeded No. seven in their Division 5 sectional, face second-seeded Suring in Friday’s regional semifinals.
