Dan Bates, an assistant football coach at McQuaid for the past three seasons, has been promoted to varsity coach, the school announced on its website.
Bates, who spent 18 years as an assistant at Hilton before coming to McQuaid, will replace his younger brother, Bobby, who resigned last month.
“It is a tremendous honor to be able to work with the great young men that are committed to the mission of McQuaid Jesuit,” Bates said in a news release. “I am looking forward to getting to work right away with them.”
Bobby Bates went 25-12 in his four seasons as McQuaid’s head coach. He was named Rochester City Athletic Conference Coach of the Year three times.
