WASHINGTON (WUSA 9) — The 6th Annual DC High School Baseball Classic got off to a relatively normal start with Mayor Gray throwing out the first pitch on Sunday at Nationals Ballpark.
The classic pits private and public schools against each other for D.C. bragging rights.
Wilson got on the board first when Vince Femia hit an RBI single, scoring Joe Greenberg, but then the rains came.
Wilson and their opponent Maret milled around until they got final word the game was postponed, but the experience was what organizers hoped for.
“When we have four teams that come in here and actually play on a pro field, that’s golden … that stays with them … they’ll talk about that for the rest of their lives,” said the classic’s director of baseball operations, Jerard Hall.
