Waupun’s Colin DeBoer went 2-for-2 and drove in the go-ahead run in five-run rally in the sixth inning as the South squad upended the North, 7-4, in the first game of the Wisconsin Baseball Coaches All-Star Classic at E.J. Schneider Field in Oshkosh on Friday.
With two outs in the sixth and the score tied at 4, DeBoer ripped a ball back up the middle that scored Taylor Jansen to give the South Squad the lead for the first time in the game.
DeBoer, who also picked up a stolen base, and Jansen each finished with two hits in the game for the South squad, which fell behind 4-0 after the first two innings and managed only one hit until the fifth.
Keeping the South squad off-balance was Winnebago Lutheran standout Maustin Otterstatter, who struck out three and did not walk a batter in his four innings of the work. He also scored a run in the game for the North squad.
Kevin Seibel of Winnebago Lutheran went 1-for-2 as the starting shortstop, while Waupun’s Jordan Daane was 0-for-2 for the South squad.
The annual event continues with four games today starting at 10 a.m.
