It was a night of first at Monday’s Morris County Indoor Track Relays Championships.
First, Delbarton won the boys title in shocking, yet eye-opening fashion, knocking off favorite Morris Hills by a 58-54 margin.
It marked the first Morris County Relays team title for Delbarton since 1976.
Jules Hislop and Chris D’Aliso both led the Green Wave to gold medal performances in the shuttle hurdle relay and 4×200-meter relay. Nick Palmer and Mike Benz also combined to win the pole vault title.
Then, Mendham won the Morris County Relays girls team title, earning the distinction for the very first time.
Mendham, thanks to its great distance runners like Abby Seel, Mackenzie Barry and Reagan Kolakowski, was able to hold off Mount Olive, 42-36, to secure the school’s first-ever Morris County Relays title. It has been a season of firsts for coach Roy Hamblen and the runners of Mendham, after winning the Morris County cross country title in the fall.
There will be more coverage from the Morris County Relays in Wednesday’s print editions of the Daily Record.
