DIAA Tournament Roundup: Wilm. Friends tops Padua in field hockey

WILMINGTON – Junior Margo Tchantz and senior Danielle Kuller scored goals as No. 11 Wilmington Friends knocked off No. 6 Padua 2-1 in the first round of the DIAA Field Hockey Tournament at Tower Hill School on Wednesday.

Tchantz scored an unassisted goal with 11:45 left in the first half and Kuller added a goal off an assist from senior Elena Veale with 22:16 left in the game. Junior Gabriele DellaCompagni scored Padua’s goal off an assist from sophomore Regan Lehman with 21:06 to go.

Sophomore goalkeeper Madison Gillerlain made two saves for Wilmington Friends (10-3-3) while senior Jessica Clerval made three for Padua (12-4). The Quakers meet No. 3 Delmar in the quarterfinals on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Milford High School.

DELMAR – Senior Booter Ellis scored two goals to lead the Wildcats. Ellis put the Wildcats (15-1) on the board with a goal off an assist from senior Amy Wilson at 20:06 in the second half. Just 50 seconds later she scored off an assist from senior Shaina Thompson.No. 3 Delmar 3, No. 14 Dover 1

Senior Kerri Lusser scored an unassisted goal to get Dover (10-6) within one with 9:43 left but Thompson tallied an unassisted insurance goal with 3:30 to go.

The Wildcats outshot Dover 20-3 and took 19 penalty corners to Dover’s 4. Senior Tressie Windsor had no saves in goal for Delmar while sophomore Brooklyn Peete tallied 11 for Dover.

Boys soccer

WILMINGTON – Sophomore Daniel Rhoades scored his second goal of the game 2:36 into overtime to give Delaware Miltary a victory in the DIAA Division II Boys Soccer Tournament on Tuesday night. The Seahawks play No. 3 St. Georges on Saturday.No. 11 Delaware Military 2, No. 6 Tower Hill 1, OT

Rhoades put the Seahawks (8-7-1) on the scoreboard with a goal 12:22 into the game. Tower Hill sophomore Benjamin Crain scored at 69:09 in the second half to knot the score at 1-1.

Tower Hill (9-5-2) had an edge in shots at 12-11. Junior Charles Balback and sophomore Joshua Pearsall combined in goal for DMA with Balback making 10 saves and Pearsall one. Senior Austin Rafetto tallied nine saves for Tower Hill.
