At noon on National Signing Day, Dunbar’s Johnell Barnes made his decision official, signing a letter of intent to play football for Duke University.
Barnes won’t be the only player in the area suiting up for the Blue Devils next year; he’ll join close friend T.J. Douglas, who played quarterback for Fort Myers last year.
“We’ve known each other since we were four years old playing football together,” Barnes said. “We’re going to be rooming together, so it should be a great experience.”
Barnes, a wide receiver for the Tigers, expects to compete for a spot on the team at that position as a true freshman and put time in at defensive back.
“I’m looking forward to coming in as a true freshman, but also hitting my books to keep my G.P.A. over a 3.0,” he said.
Also signing were Ahmad Richards and Greg Houston, who will play at Coffeyville Community College and Webber International University, respectively.
