The Fond du Lac tennis team finished second at the FVA Conference tennis tournament Thursday, tying them for second overall with Oshkosh West. Neenah won the tournament, its 14th consecutive conference title.
Fond du Lac’s Kyle Dunn was crowned the No. 1 singles champion, while No. 2 singles player Kenan Selah finished second. The No. 1 doubles team consisting of Stuart Nett and Matt Riley finished second as well while the No. 2 doubles team of Mitchell Riley and Rex Whealon took third.
Dunn started the tournament with a over Appleton East, then defeated Mitchell Sauder of Kimberly to face Neenah’s Ryan Risgaard. He won the match 6-2, 6-1 to be declared champion.
Selah won his first match over Vince Clune of Oshkosh North, then won over Oshkosh West’s Alex Boettcher, before falling to Neenah’s Will Weyenberg (6-3, 6-0) in the championship match.
The Cardinals No. 1 doubles team won a close first match against Appleton East (6-4, 6-7 (7), 10-5) and then defeated Oshkosh West 6-3, 6-7 (3), 10-7 in another close one. They then lost 6-2, 6-1 in the championship match to Neenah.
Riley/Whealon won their first match in the No. 2 doubles bracket over Oshkosh North, but then fell to Oshkosh West 7-5, 4-6, 10-7 in the semifinals. They redeemed themselves with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-4 win over Appleton East to finish third.
