The Eaton Rapids sixth grade girls’ gold division basketball team went 4-0 to capture first place at the Big Shot Tournament hosted by Lumen Christi High School Dec. 26-28.
The girls opened the tourney Dec. 26 with a convincing victory over an undersized Michigan Center team. Later that same day, Eaton Rapids closed out the pool play with a dominating 33-17 victory over Western.
The Lady ‘Hounds were seeded first after pool play and once again met Western in the semi-final game Dec. 28, where the girls were victorious with a hard fought 16-8 win. The finals matched the Greyhounds against an undefeated Grasslake team. The Lady Hounds responded with their best defense of the tournament holding Grasslake to 12 points while scoring 23.
Arianna Sysum was the leading tournament scorer with a four game total of 63 points. Breana Rendon had a strong tournament on the boards while also scoring 43 points. Emily Haeck added 14 points and Cassie Ward chipped in 11. Kaylee Coppes contributed 9 points and several assists, while Emily Hause and Orion Powers both scored 4 points while playing solid defense. Isabell Ausel was out of town and not able to participate.
The girls’ overall record now stands at 5-2. The girls resumed Red Cedar league play Jan. 5th against Charlotte.
