The Eaton Rapids ‘Hounds sixth grade boys basketball team recently placed third out of 15 teams at the Big Shot Basketball tournament held at Jackson Lumen Christi High School.
The ‘Hounds began the tournament with two lopsided wins over Jackson Christian and Michigan Center to earn the number 1 seed heading into the semi-finals of the top division. Unfortunately, Eaton Rapids lost a close game to the Jackson Jets by a score of 31-29. The ‘Hounds responded nicely and came back with a 43-31 win over the Jackson Heat in the third place game to finish the tournament with three wins and one loss.
Cameron Haight led the offense with a four game total of 47 points. Griffin Gleeson added 29 while Nathan Dassance had 28, RJ VanVliet 21 and Scott Rhoads 20. Spencer Dick scored 16 total points, Deion Rogers 8, Chase Metts 8, Coltin Anderson 8, Jack Reid 4 and Zachary Dassance 2. The sixth grade Gold Division team now has an overall record of 5-4 as they prepare for more Red Cedar League play in the coming weekends.
