Eckley's eight touchdowns enough to lead Marcos de Niza to win


Marcos de Niza (Tempe, Ariz.) has given up nearly 52 points a game, yet the Padres are 3-0, thanks in great part to quarterback Josh Eckley. The junior connected on 15 of 28 passes for six touchdowns and 359 yards and ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns to lead Marcos de Niza to a 78-57 defeat of Buena (Sierra Vista) on Friday. For the season, Eckley has thrown 15 touchdown passes and run for five.

"He just does a good job of extending the play with his feet," Buena coach Ryan Scherling said. "We kept chasing him and he kept evading us. We didn't do a good job of corraling him and it's tough to ask our guys to cover people for six or eight seconds. We were up three touchdowns at the half, but we couldn't close the door."

Senior needed only six carries for 228 yards and four touchdowns in a 60-27 win at Verbena on Friday.

J.B. Copeland, LB, Carroll, Southlake, Texas
Senior had six solo tackles, nine assisted tackles, one interception and forced a fumble as his team defeated Temple 38-7 on Friday. He has said he plans to sign with New Mexico State.

Louis Germaine, RB, West Linn, Ore.
Senior ran 38 times for 151 yards and four touchdowns and caught two touchdown passes in a 42-28 defeat of Barlow (Gresham) on Friday.

Devonte’ Simon, QB, Pickens County, Reform, Ala.
Senior ran for three touchdowns, threw for two and scored on a 75-yard interception return in a 78-12 victory over Lynn on Friday.

Jake Sisson, QB, Jamestown, N.Y.
Senior completed 21 of 40 passes for 508 yards and six touchdowns in a 50-28 defeat of Kenmore West (Buffalo) on Saturday.

Christian Solano, QB, San Fernando, Calif.
For the second consecutive game, the senior threw six touchdown passes,  completing 23 of 33 passes for 435 yards, as the Tigers defeated Poly (Sun Valley) 47-19 Friday. He also ran for 118 yards and a touchdown.

Chris Turner, QB, Winfield, W.Va.
Senior ran 16 times for 166 yards and six touchdowns to help his team come from behind to defeat Ripley 49-20 Friday.

Desmon White, QB, DeSoto, Texas
Senior completed 21 of 27 passes for 344 yards and five touchdowns and ran for a touchdown in a 61-35 defeat of Trinity (Euless) on Saturday.

Clarence Williams, QB, Sylmar, Los Angeles
Sophomore threw seven touchdown passes and ran for a touchdown in a 83-42 defeat of Verdugo Hills (Los Angeles) on Friday.
