As school days before the holiday break wind down, the Register’s winter prep sports coverage is just ramping up.
Turn to Page 10C today and check out the High School Insider, a Sunday story-telling staple for years that also ties up a variety of loose ends across Iowa.
In Tuesday’s Register, the popular full page of CIML basketball coverage — “Every Team, Every Tuesday” — from reporters Chris Cuellar and John Naughton resumes its weekly flights. (Though we do add a 19th logo, Ankeny Centennial’s, to the mix this year.)
On Thursday, nationally recognized reporter Andy Hamilton unveils his first wrestling notebook of the season — always a topical mix of national, state and local tidbits.
And, of course, we blanket the pages of the Register on Wednesdays and Saturdays following those big Tuesday/Friday high school basketball menus.
It all escalates to Iowa’s version of March Madness (even if it does start in February), with three weeks of state tournament action at Wells Fargo Arena. That’s when our reporters, Web producers, photographers and page designers — like the athletes themselves — really get a chance to shine.
The Register always has considered high school sports a franchise beat. It was just last Sunday that the Register’s All-Century high school football team was published, assembled from 100 years of Register all-state teams. (Say that again — 100 years!)
As for the next 100 years? This week, the Register rolls out a new app for tablet users. Make sure to download it to your iPad or Kindle for visually stunning content, easy navigation and improved functionality. (And stay tuned for a new mobile app and redesigned desktop home page in the months to come.)
There’s no better way to follow our top-notch high school sports coverage.
