LANHAM, Md. (WUSA) — The Eleanor Roosevelt Raiders executed on offense, used their height advantage and stayed calm on defense to defeat DuVal, 88-64, in front of a sold-out crowd on Monday night.

“We know it’s the team that gets the win, not just one person,” said senior guard Trevor Evans after the game, and the stats show that his mind-set resonates with head coach Brendan O’Connell’s other upperclassmen.

Senior forward Malachi Alexander led the team in scoring with 19 points, while Evans finished the night with 17 and Andre Fox racked up 12.

“It’s going to give us a cushion. This is better than how we played against DuVal in December … [but] we can’t stay satisfied,” said Alexander.

The Tigers put forth a sound effort, but struggled to rebound the ball against the Raiders taller players like 6-foot-5 guard Tiwian Kendley and 6-foot-2 forward Jesse Ason. Mallin Sellers led DuVal in scoring with 17 points, while the Tigers’ leading scorer, Michael Cunningham, who is averaging 19.9 points per game, was held to 15 points on the night.

“If we play like that we’re going to be tough to beat,” said O’Connell, whose team is now 15-1 overall and looking for another win against Suitland Tuesday night while DuVal tips off against Bladensberg.
