Evangel boys basketball receives penalty for ineligible player

The Evangel boys basketball program received an LHSAA penalty after playing an ineligible player in a Hall of Fame game on Nov. 9.

The player, who was not named in the penalty ruling, will be ineligible for one calendar year and sit out an additional game because of the penalty.

The school will pay a $100 fine, be placed on administrative probation for one calendar year and head coach Remi Mason must attend an LHSAA Handbook Certification class.

Evangel principal Bud Dean wasn’t immediately available for comment.

The Hall of Fame game does not count in Evangel’s official record, so the Eagles will not be affected by the forfeiture.

Another LHSAA member school reported Evangel to the LHSAA.
