With 1:30 remaining in overtime, Emily Ryan assisted Danielle Gallagher to lift the South Brunswick High School field hockey team to a 3-2, Greater Middlesex Conference victory, against Old Bridge in their season opener.

The Vikings (1-0) led 2-1 at half thanks to goals by Ryan, who finished with two assists on the day, and Tori Aspir.

Old Bridge (0-1), which trailed late in the second half, tied the game with six minutes remaining in regulation before the eventual Gallagher heroics.

South Plainfield 6, Piscataway 0: Jess Bishop had her second consecutive four-goal game for South Plainfield (2-0), while Shannon Hughes scored the Tigers’ other two goals. Courtney Ross made four saves for the shutout while Piscataway (0-1-1) goalie Hannah Isaacs notched 22 saves.

Mount St. Mary 5, North Plainfield 0: Marina Gialanella scored twice for Mount St. Mary (1-1). Victoria Lang and Andrea Sanders added one goal and one assist each. Brittany Leon made 28 saves for North Plainfield (0-2).

South Hunterdon 7, Franklin 0: Amber Dey scored three goals for South Hunterdon as the Eagles shutout Franklin. Janelle Melecio made 26 saves for Franklin.

Voorhees 3, Montgomery 1: Kathryn Roncoroni scored two goals and Ashley Kerekgyarto added another for Voorhees. Tori Crans had two assists for the Vikings. Kiran Sunduram had 19 saves for Montgomery.

Metuchen 6, Monroe 3: Rachel Gulotta starred for Metuchen on the afternoon scoring three goals, while teammate Christina Slachetka added two more en route to Metuchen victory.

Ridge 2, Hillsborough 1: Jenny Diehl and Anna Fain scored goals for Ridge (2-1) while teammate Devon Brown contributed two goals. Kate Rolson scored the lone Hillsborough (0-2) goal.

Somerville
0, Phillipsburg 0: Alyssa Judd made eight saves for Somerville (0-1-1).
