There are a couple new celebrities signed on for this year’s annual Charity-Celebrity Golf & Dinner Outing benefiting the Marion County Youth Foundation.
This, the 31st edition, is shaping up to be another outstanding event, said co-chairs Matt Axline and Steve Badertscher.
“Committees have been working hard to secure sponsorships, and the preparation meetings we’ve had with the staff at the Marion Country Club have gone really well,” Axline said.
Dave Gorenflo, celebrity chairman, has received commitments from two new sports celebrities this year. Matt Finkes, Ohio State University football, and Matt Terwilliger, OSU basketball, are in the mix for the Wednesday, June 19, event at Marion Country Club.
The format for the event is a four-person scramble, and “par is your friend” keeps play moving to provide more time to chat with the celebrities before dinner, Axline said.
Proximity awards are included, and there will be a $5,000 prize for a “hole in one” on the designated hole. A silent auction and live auction organized by Bart Wolfe will offer many packages provided by sponsors.
If you would like to be a part of this year’s event as a corporate sponsor or player, call Dick Axline at 740-726-2446. Options are available for corporate and individual participation.
The participation fee is $100 for an individual, $400 for team. Reservations must be returned no later than May 31.
The golf event is the primary fundraising effort for the foundation. Proceeds raised from the 2011 outing topped $12,000, which will be used to support grants for deserving Marion County students.
Since its beginning, the foundation has provided more than $400,000 in grants to about 9,000 Marion County young people.
The Marion County Youth Foundation is a 501c3 organization. Support comes in grants or other methods of funding. Applicants will be reviewed by the Recipient Evaluation Committee and must be between the ages of 10 and 25.
Awards will be based on merit without regard to color, race, national origin, sex, religion or physical handicap. Grant applications can be obtained by calling Dick Axline at 740-726-2446.
